Trey Anastasio led his solo band in a two-night stand at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail, CO, on Monday and Tuesday, wrapping up the group’s short Colorado run that began with two shows in Denver this past weekend.
The surprise of night one in Vail came near the tail-end of the first set, when Anastasio and company offered their first performance of “Olivia” since June 7, 2003 (the short-lived TAB tune was debuted less than a year before that date). Monday’s setlist also featured the Phish staple “No Men in No Man’s Land” and “Ocelot,” plus an encore-closing “Blaze On.”
TAB returned to the amphitheater stage last night, and the group debuted another cut from Anastasio’s Ghosts of the Forest project, “The Green Truth” in the second set (the album and tour also featured a few TAB members, vocalist Jennifer Hartswick, bassist Tony Markellis and keyboardist Ray Paczkowski). As JamBase notes, Anastasio also took some time during Tuesday’s encore to offer a solo acoustic rendition of his song “Summer of ’89,” explaining to the audience that it was the 25th wedding anniversary for him and his wife, Sue, for whom the guitarist wrote the song. Anastasio also pointed out that Markellis actually played the couple’s wedding as part of the Unknown Blues Band.
Check out both setlists below. Next up for Anastasio and his band is a performance at next week’s LOCKN’ Festival in Virginia, where Anastasio will also team up with Tedeschi Trucks Band for a set.

August 14, 2019 at 12:31 pmOnly went to Monday, but damn, what a smoke show!! Something happened with the lights during First Tube, and all the house lights came up. People started going nuts and Trey was feeding off their energy in a huge way. Looked like a friggin’ European soccer crowd after a goal was scored. I was too enthralled in the moment to take my phone out, but I hope some video surfaces somewhere. Truly epic night!
