As part of SiruisXM’s recently launched Phish Radio (ch. 29), members of the band sat in the studio and answered some questions on various subjects, and the streaming service released one highlight clip of guitarist Trey Anastasio’s interview in which the Phish frontman proclaimed Derek Trucks as his favorite axeman on the planet.

“I did get a chance to play with Tedeschi Trucks, and we’re going to play together at LOCKN’. I’m really excited,” Anastasio begins, referring to the time he sat in with Trucks’ Tedeschi Trucks Band at New York’s Beacon Theatre in October 2017. (Anastasio has also played with Trucks in other incarnations, including at Florida’s Wanee Festival with the Allman Brothers Band back in 2014.)

“Derek is without question my favorite guitar player and, I think, the best guitar player on Earth right now,” Anastasio continues. “When Derek came along—I saw him first when he was young—I loved his playing so much that…I almost wanted to write him a thank-you note. He made me believe in the guitar as a serious instrument again, and he affected the way I play. I’m playing better because of Derek Trucks. “
