The last time My Morning Jacket played together was at their One Big Holiday destination event in the Dominican Republic in March 2018, which featured full-album performances from the band of their entire catalog. MMJ made their triumphant return to the stage on Friday night with their first of two performances at Colorado’s famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre and offered a similarly career-spanning setlist.

The evening kicked off with two tracks from Jacket’s 2011 album, Circuital, “Victory Dance” and the title track. Friday’s set also featured a number of tunes from their 2003 record, It Still Moves, including “I Will Sing You Songs,” “Golden” and “Run Thru,” and 2005’s Z, like “Dondante” and “What a Wonderful Man,” along with a cut from the group’s most recent studio effort, 2015’s The Waterfall, “In Its Infancy (The Waterfall).” MMJ also fit in two songs from their 1999 debut, The Tennessee Fire, “Heartbreakin’ Man” and “War Begun” (the band will celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut with a full-album performance at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, next weekend.

Jacket later closed out night one at Red Rocks with an extended encore, kicking off with a tune that frequently shows up in frontman Jim James’ solo setlists, “Wonderful (The Way I Feel),” and The Waterfall‘s “Believe (Nobody Knows)” and closed out with It Still Moves‘ “Mahgeetah.”
