Grateful Dead Inc. has shared yet another archival pro-shot video, as part of their “All The Years Live” video series.
This week, we’re headed back to 1989, for the Grateful Dead’s Philadelphia gig at John F Kennedy Stadium. This “Box of Rain” was placed as a cool-down song, following a lengthy pairing of “Let It Grow”> “Blow Away” and just before a classic “Scarlet”> “Fire.”
“‘Box Of Rain’s return to the live repertoire in 1986 after a 13 year absence was one of the most welcome re-births of a Dead song,” GD archivist David Lemieux said of the clip. “Since its March 20, 1986 return in Hampton, VA, Box Of Rain was a song that could appear anywhere in the show, sometimes opening the second set (as it does here), sometimes an encore, occasionally ending a first set, random middle of the first set placement, and even an occasional show-opener. Box Of Rain would be the last song the Grateful Dead ever played.”
