On Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench continued his venue-specific run at Café Carlyle in New York City. After warming up at the Big Apple location over multiple nights [his residency began on Tuesday, Feb. 18], Tench brought out a member of Elvis Costello’s bands, the Attractions and the Imposters, Steve Nieve, for a sit-in.
During the occasion, Nieve assisted Tench on the Nick Lowe-scribed “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding,” a song that was initially premiered with his band Brinsley Schwarz on the 1974 LP The New Favourites of… Brinsley Schwarz. The track was ultimately popularized by Costello and the Attractions and appeared on the American version of the 1979 set Armed Forces.
Nieve is currently in the Tri-State Area ahead of his touring commitments with Costello. They will visit Port Chester, N.Y., for an appearance at The Capitol Theatre tonight, Friday, Feb. 21. Tickets remain on sale and can be purchased here.
