Brittany Howard, lead vocalist for Alabama Shakes, has kept busy after the release of the band’s sophomore release Sound & Color in 2015.

Since then, she’s worked in bands like Bermuda Triangle and Thunderbitch, but on September 20, she will release her debut solo album Jaime.

According to a press release, Jaime is named after Howard’s sister who passed away as a teen, and the project acted as an outlet for Howard to confront a variety of hard emotions.

“[This album is] about me,” she explains. “I’m pretty candid about myself and who I am and what I believe. Which is why I needed to do it on my own.” This mission of solo self exploration is made evident by Howard’s long hours spent in the studio arranging these new compositions.
