Vampire Weekend’s highly anticipated Father of the Bride was released on Friday, May 3, and to celebrate the indie stalwarts descended upon New York’s Washington Square Park that afternoon to play an unannounced, free show for whoever could manage to get there.
In addition to Father of the Bride cuts like “Sunflower” and “Hold On You Now,” the band mostly performed older cuts like an opening take on “White Sky,” off 2010’s Contra, and a closing version of their breakthrough single “A-Punk.” Throughout the set, frontman Ezra Koenig was taking requests from the small crowd gathered at Washington Square Park.
