Gov’t Mule and Jack Pearson: Wanee 2016
On Friday, April 26, Gov’t Mule celebrated the Allman Brothers in the band’s adopted hometown of Macon, Ga. with a special appearance by former ABB guitarist Jack Pearson.
Gov’t Mule’s first half consisted of tunes like “Grinnin’ In Your Face”> “Mule” and a nice “Down On The Brazos”> “Tributary Jam” segment before closing out with Revolution Come…Revolution Go cut “Stone Cold Rage.”
The real highlight of the evening came in set two, with an appearance by Pearson on ABB favorites “Soulshine,” “Bluesky,” “Dreams,” “Jessica” and “Whipping Post,” with the final tune featuring a tease of “Les Brers In A Minor.” (In the past, Gov’t Mule jammed with Pearson at the 2016 and 2017 Wanee Festival. He served as the Allman Brothers’ guitarist from 1997-1999.)

April 29, 2019 at 10:56 amI feel ya Fred. But he was an original, wrote the music, helped create the sound, and band named after him…not really comparable. the brothers tenure with Pearson was weak weak weak, made the band boring…with the exception of “dreams” one night in charlotte:)

April 29, 2019 at 10:22 amTo say Jack Pearson brings nothing interesting to the table is mind-boggling. In fairness, I guess you could have the same retort for me as Michael Houser left me cold. I really tried, too.
Try me?
April 29, 2019 at 6:33 amListen to Jack’s work with ABB during the 98 Summer tour. He was amazing. July 4th in Charlotte, NC….the “Dreams” solo is one for the record books.

April 27, 2019 at 1:34 pmJack Pearson is the George McConnell of the ABB. While talented, he brings nothing interesting to the table….

April 27, 2019 at 6:51 pmYou are full of it. Jack Pearson is one of the best guitar players on this planet.
Got Mule?
April 27, 2019 at 1:30 pmGuys, please invite some guest percussionists to the stage if you plan on playing ABB tunes. Their music is not meant to be played by only one drummer (no offense, Matt). It sounds empty. That being said, my beloved Gov’t Mule is not a very good ABB cover band. There are much better ones. End of rant…Gracias!
