Disco Biscuits keyboardist Aron Magner debuted his newest project, SPAGA, this past fall, and the trio—which also features bassist Jason Fraticelli and drummer Matt Scarano—announced today that they will release their self-titled debut album on July 19.

The trio also shared the first single from the six-track album, “Creed,” which premiered today over at Relix. “‘Creed’ is a nod to the past and a wave to the future,” Magner says of the new track. “The music and its connections to my roots reintroduced me to my first instrument, the piano, while pointing forward towards growth and potential. I wrote the first couple songs for this album with no preconceptions about what it was or what it could be. It was simply music for the sake of music that led to an organic flow of ideas. But after recruiting Philly phenoms Jason Fraticelli on bass and Matt Scarano on drums, the songs began to speak to a shared manifesto—or ‘creed’ if you will—of resilience: hard work, belief, faith. By the time we were finished recording the album, it represented a journey, which will only continue as we begin to play these compositions in a live setting.”

SPAGA have a handful of dates on their 2019 schedule, including two New Orleans shows during Jazz Fest. See the trio’s upcoming shows below and listen to “Creed” here.

In other Biscuits news, the band recently unveiled the vinyl version of their 2002 studio album, Señor Boombox, which is now available at record stores and via Amazon.
