Preservation Hall Jazz Band have shared a new song, “Kreyol,” off the soundtrack to the forthcoming documentary A Tuba to Cuba.

Recalling his time in Cuba, bandleader Ben Jaffe said of the new song, “Every evening in Havana people gather along the waterfront to socialize. I’ve always been taken by the tempo at which people stroll, like New Orleans, there’s a very particular rhythm to their walk. That rhythm was the inspiration for ‘Kreyol.’ In fact, ‘Kreyol’ is the Cuban spelling of ‘Creole.’ You can feel that same Creole influence in New Orleans, it’s one of our many shared connections with Cuba.”

A Tuba to Cuba follows Jaffe as he traces his roots to Havana, explores Cuban soundscapes and collaborates with fellow musicians of all stripes.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band also have quite a few tour dates on their calendar – not to mention their required and beloved presence at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
