Weezer and Pixies brought their co-tour to New York’s Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night, along with opening acts Tv On the Radio and Basement, and both headlining acts offered up sets heavy on their classic tunes, with a couple newer cuts.

During their own short set, TV On the Radio brought their own “Golden Age” to The Garden for the first time (last night was the band’s first MSG show since opening for Franz Ferdinand in 2005), a song that has been covered by Phish at the venue several times.

Next, Pixies’ set, which marked their first headlining gig at The Garden and first appearance there since opening for U2 in 1992, was filled with favorites like “Here Comes Your Man,” “Where Is My Mind?,” “Monkey Gone to Heaven,” “Gigantic,” “Hey” and a their cover of Neil Young’s “Winterlong” before the band closed out with their signature raucous “Vamos.” Pixies also offered a couple of newer tunes, “Death Horizon” and “In the Witching Hour,” presumably from the group’s upcoming album, expected later this year.

Weezer’s finale set, just their third ever appearance at MSG and first in over a decade, kicked off with a barbershop quartet version of their hit “Buddy Holly,” which the band played on The Tonight Show last month, then continued with classics (many from their debut self-titled Blue Album) like “My Name is Jonas,” “El Scorcho,” a regular version of “Buddy Holly,” “Undone – The Sweater Song” and “Surf Wax America,” plus their cover of Toto’s “Africa.” Weezer would later also cover TLC’s “No Scrubs” and a-ha’s “Take On Me,” both off the band’s recent covers-filled Teal Album. Frontman Rivers Cuomo also noted before his band played “Can’t Knock the Hustle” that TV On the Radio’s Dave Sitek produced Weezer’s new Black Album, which the song comes from (it was the only Black Album tune of the night). The band then closed out their set with “Hash Pipe” and later wrapped up their encore with “Say It Ain’t So.”
