Phish’s Mexican getaway finished up Saturday night with a massive, six-song encore as well as the first stand-alone “Mike’s Song”> “Weekapaug Groove” since 7/17/98.

The band kicked off the show with an anthemic “The Curtain With”> “Punch You in the Eye”> “Blaze On”> “Destiny Unbound” segment, which they followed up with their fourth-ever performance of Vida Blue’s “Most Events Aren’t Planned.” From there, Phish jammed into the weekend’s long-awaited “Divided Sky,” and closed out the first half with stand-alone versions of “Steam” and “Chalk Dust Torture.”

The quartet kicked things into overdrive for set two, opening with a “First Tube” that was so high-energy, guitarist Trey Anastasio slipped and briefly fell over. Mid-song, Anastasio regained his footing and led the band through the aforementioned “Mike’s Song”> “Weekapaug Groove” rarity. (However, it is worth noting Trey Anastasio Band did play a stand-alone “Mike’s Groove” with special guest Mike Gordon in 2002.)

Dusting off some of their most trusted jam vehicles for the first time all weekend, Phish then dove into a “Fuego”> “Tweezer”> “Carini”> “Ghost” segment. However, they were sure to toss in newer favorite “Say It To Me S.A.N.T.O.S.” to close the set.

To earsplitting cheers from the audience, Phish opened their six-song encore with “Simple,” followed by a comprehensive “Martian Monster,” containing elements of “The Final Hurrah,” “Death Don’t Hurt Very Long,”
“Sanity” and – perhaps the weekend’s most talked-about cover – “Spanish Moon.”

The “Martian Monster” morphed into the band’s first “Kung” since 12/29/16 (show gap: 72), and the weirdness kept coming with Phish’s hard-edged “Big Black Furry Creature From Mars.”

Things slowed down for a moment as drummer Jon Fishman sang his standby “Sleeping Monkey,” but Phish ended their three-night Mexican vacation with a thrilling, show-ending “Tweezer Reprise.”
