On Friday night at Burlington, VT’s Higher Ground, Max Creek offered a special show that featured a guest spot from Phish bassist and local resident Mike Gordon, a longtime fan of the band who also collaborates frequently with Max Creek guitarist Scott Murawski.
Gordon joined Murawski and company for one tune on Friday, “Jones,” a cut that the two have played many times in Gordon’s solo band. Watch a video of the collaboration below, via Live for Live Music.
As Max Creek tells L4LM, Gordon was backstage on Friday and told the group about the first time he saw Max Creek live, in Boston in 1983, and how the bassist immediately asked his father to go to another Creek show and record the next week. Gordon and Murawski are frequent songwriting partners and have played together in multiple groups over the years, beginning with an iteration of Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann’s BK3 trio.

February 18, 2019 at 5:45 pmMike and Scott played together well before BK3, including a couple of MGB tours, the DropCaps project (1997!), Murawski’s 420 Scottness record release gig (2001), and a bunch of Mike sit-ins with Creek. Oh, and that Scott sit-in with Phish in Mansfield MA (1999). “A rumor in their own time” indeed.
Come on
February 18, 2019 at 4:21 pm“who also collaborates frequently”…… like, how Scott is a member of MGB?? Your guys writing continues to provide laughs.
