While winter can seem endless, baseball season is right around the corner, and the Lakewood BlueClaws are ready to let out their inner Deadheads.
The minor league baseball team – which calls New Jersey home, and is affiliated with the nearby Philadelphia Phillies – will host an official “Grateful Dead Night” on Saturday, June 22.
According to the Asbury Park Press, “The BlueClaws themselves will be getting in on the fun, wearing special Grateful Dead-themed jerseys for the night. The jerseys will be auctioned off during the game, with proceeds supporting BlueClaws Charities and community partners.”
Local Dead tribute act Splintered Sunlight will play a gig before the game, and a fireworks display will follow.
Coincidentally, Dead & Company are slated for a gig at Camden, NJ’s BB&T Pavilion on their summer tour, just two days before the BlueClaws Dead-inspired outing (June 20).

February 5, 2019 at 9:40 pmMLB, minor league baseball and many NHL teams have been holding GD Nights for years now. Not only is it fun, but either a percentage of ticket sales goes to the Dead’s charitable org, Rex Foundation, or game worn jerseys are auctioned for charity. Totally in spirit with the GD…having fun and giving back!

February 5, 2019 at 7:37 pmFat bayless GFY chump. If I lived near there as a baseball fan and deadhead I would go and the jerseys are cool. Beats the hell out of most promo night ideas hearing Grateful Dead between innings would be a nice break from the Latino shit you hear at most ballparks. Hope the Pensacola Blue Wahoos do this followed by a Dead night at Vinyl.
