Umphrey’s McGee are celebrating the holiday season with a newly released recording of guitarists Jake Cinninger and Brendan Bayliss’ cover of David Bowie’s classic “Space Oddity” with reworked, Santa Clause–themed lyrics.

“Santa Oddity,” which can be heard below, is taken from Cinninger and Bayliss’ annual holiday acoustic show back in 2011 at Chicago’s Park West and features Cinninger on lead vocals, offering a story of one Christmas night gone wrong. Bayliss also adds a bit of The Marshall Tucker Band’s “Can’t You See” near the end.

The Umphrey’s guitarists returned to Park West one week ago for the 16th annual holiday show, which featured guests like longtime collaborator Jennifer Hartswick and UM percussionist Andy Farag. Umphrey’s McGee are currently down in Mexico for the Holidaze destination event and will wrap up their year later this month with a four-night New Year’s Eve run in Atlanta.
