In January, jazz master Kamasi Washington will debut his new short film As Told To G/D Thyself at Sundance.

According to a press release, the film was inspired by Heaven and Earth, the saxophonist’s acclaimed second LP, and its directorial credits feature Washington as well as the rest of The Ummah Chroma collective, featuring Bradford Young (SelmaArrivalSolo: A Star Wars Story), Terence Nance (“Random Acts of Flyness”), Jenn Nkiru (Beyoncé and Jay Z’s “APESHIT”) and Marc Thomas (Michael & Javier).

Washington’s announcement on Twitter read, “Over the last year, I have had the great fortune of working with an amazing team of directors on a film inspired by my album Heaven and Earth. We are so proud to announce that AS TOLD TO G/D THYSELF will premiere at Sundance in January!”

Additionally, Washington has scheduled a special performance at the historical Apollo Theater in New York City on Feb. 23 to headline the venue’s “Race Music” weekend.
