Saturday night, Bob Weir & Wolf Bros closed their two-night stand at Port Chester, NY’s Capitol Theatre with a three-song sit in by Warren Haynes.
Haynes, who is on a break from touring with Gov’t Mule and played in The Dead from 2004-2009, appeared from the wings late in the second set. Weir and company had already served up Grateful Dead classics like “Bertha,” “Friend of the Devil” and “Tennessee Jed” as well as Bob Dylan’s “Queen Jane Approximately” and Ratdog cuts like “Even So” and “October Queen” by the time set two rolled around.
After kicking off the half with “Lost Sailor”> “Saint of Circumstance”> “Smokestack Lightning,” and offering up a nice stand-alone “Eyes of the World,” Weir & Wolf Bros dug into the Willie Dixon-penned “Eternity.” From there, Weir led the band on “The Other One” and a pensive “Stella Blue” before welcoming Warren Haynes onstage for a revival of “The Other One.”
“Everyone say ‘Hi, Warren!’,” Weir said introducing his former bandmate.
Haynes supplied guitar lines for the rest of “The Other One” as well as the following “Not Fade Away,” which had everyone the Capitol Theatre singing and dancing along.
Weir, Wolf Bros and Haynes all closed the show with a rocking encore of “Turn On Your Love Light.”

Taj or Warren not even close as to who the people want. Look at size of venues where both play. Love Light was over 7 minutes, a good encore. These days when stage hands are unionized, shows and encores are highly controlled as to length as to not pay double time.

November 12, 2018 at 9:36 amSo maybe I was hallucinating but didn’t Bob take a phone call from Taj Mahal on stage near the end of the first set? Then take an extremely long set break? Sounds like Bob got blown off and had to scramble to get Warren for a very short, anticlimactic sit-in. Would it have killed them to do a double encore?
