Florida-bred, Los Angeles-based keyboardist Carey Frank will sub for Kofi Burbridge on the road with Tedeschi Trucks Band this summer. A multi-instrumentalist known for his skills on piano, organ, keyboards and ukulele, Frank’s credits include Strangers On a Saturday Night, Rumproller Organ Trio, The White Blinds, Lucy Woodward, Aubrey Logan, Josh Smith and Phat Cat Swingers. As previously reported, Burbridge suffered a heart attack on Tuesday night and was rushed into surgery.

A statement posted on Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Facebook explains:

We are so happy to report the good news that our brother Kofi Burbridge is doing very well following his surgery and his doctors expect a full recovery. Kofi is in good spirits but will need time off to rest and get his strength back before he returns to the road. In the meantime, and with Kofi’s blessing, a talented young keyboard player named Carey Frank will be playing keyboards on the Wheels of Soul Tour this summer. The band welcomes Carey into the TTB family and looks forward to a great run of shows until Kofi is ready to get to get back on stage.

Frank has also worked with Marty Morell, Ndugu Chancler, Marshall Tucker Band, Eric Marienthal, Jane Monheit, Munyungo Jackson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Larry Goldings, Lenny Picket, T Lavitz, Martin Short, Dan Aykroyd, Josh Smith, Eric Gales, Drake Bell and Bob Mintzer. In addition, he had a residency with Cirque de Soleil and Walt Disney World prior to moving to LA.

Tedeschi Trucks Band’s annual Wheels of Soul tour will kick off in Gilford, NH on July 1. The Wood Brothers and Hot Tuna are also on the summer bill.
