Last night during Nine Inch Nails’ second show in Sydney, AUS with Queens of the Stone Age, the group diverted from the setlist when frontman Trent Reznor invited Mariqueen Maandig, his wife, up on stage for a pair of How To Destroy Angels songs. Maandig and NIN played “Ice Age” and “BBB” before exiting the stage, both hail from the brief catalog of the NIN side project.

Reznor formed How To Destroy Angels in 2010 following his decision to put Nine Inch Nails on hiatus until he was ready to come back to it. Along with Maandig, Atticus Ross (with whom Reznor scored The Social Network and Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, both of which took home multiple awards) and Rob Sheridan, who also serves as NIN’s art director, the band released their debut album Welcome Oblivion in 2013.

The band toured sparingly in 2013, as Reznor revved up plans for a new Nine Inch Nails record, with notable performances at both weekends of Coachella 2013.

Nine Inch Nails and Queens of the Stone Age will continue their tour March 8 with a show in Newcastle, AUS.
