Gregg Allman has cancelled a series of late summer shows due to illness. While Allman has not made an official statement, The Lowell Summer Music Series has issued the following statement about Allman’s August 30 show: “The concert by Gregg Allman scheduled for August 30, 2011 has been cancelled by the artist for medical reasons. The following announcement was issued by Gregg Allman’s management: We’re sorry to announce that Gregg Allman, upon his doctor’s orders, is canceling his tour from August 26, 2011 through September 15, 2011. Allman had to cancel several dates at the end of his European run in June due to an upper respiratory condition. His doctor hoped that with rest, he’d get better, but unfortunately the issue has persisted. Treatment is going to involve several days of hospitalization and 4 – 6 weeks of bed rest at home.” Allman recently anchored an all-star benefit show with The Allman Brothers Band at New York’s Beacon Theatre on July 27.
