George Porter Jr. recently released his It’s Life disc which draws together many of the artists who have joined him on stage over the years. The next few days will showcase his versatility, as he performs with three separate collectives. Tonight the celebrated bass player will join Johnny Vidacovich and Mike Lemler in The Trio at the Maple Leaf Bar in New Orleans. On Friday he will appear with drummer Simon Lott at Chelsea’s Cafn Baton Rouge. Then on Saturday its back to the Maple Leaf for a date with Papa Grows Funk founder John Gros. The remainder of the month will see Porter focus much of his attention on his Porter Batiste Stoltz project.
