Over the weekend, New Monsoon and Hot Buttered Rums joint tour continued to work its way down the west coast, making stops in Seattle, Portland and Bend, OR. Each evening the longtime friends also took the stage together in various configurations, often sharing a joint encore at the end of the night. On Friday, the two groups offered a particularly intriguing surprise at Seattles Tractor Tavern. During Hot Buttered Rums encore, New Monsoon emerged for a version of East Bound and Down, best known as the theme from Smokey and the Bandit. Perhaps as a nod to his current outing, New Monsoons Bo Carper rewrote the lyrics to the popular theme and rechristened it West Bound and Down, before closing out the night with an all-company cover of The Bands The Weight. Both California bands will return to their homestate Friday for a performance at Nevada City, CAs Miners Foundry.
