A decade after Phish’s Madison Square Garden performance (one of the band’s greatest shows, with Big Cypress looming large in that category as well), Trey Anastasio will return to the World’s Most Famous Arena this New Year’s Eve. Anastasio will perform a 90-minute support date for the Black Crowes, replacing previous opening act the Secret Machines who, in turn, replaced My Morning Jacket. Anastasio, who performed with the Black Crowes earlier this year at South Burlington, VT’s Higher Ground shares a key crew member with the Crowes: lighting director Chris Kuroda. The North Mississippi Allstars will open the evening, scheduled to kickoff at 8:00 PM.
