On Saturday, the Home Grown Music Network celebrated its 10 year anniversary with a performance at the The Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC. Artists performed both inside and outside the Theater over the course of nearly twelve hours. On hand were three groups that played at the original Home Grown Music Festival in June 1995: Keller Williams, Peter Prince and a re-united Purple Schoolbus (which drew together six of its original members for the occasion). Indeed, Wiliams and Purple Schoolbus collaborated for the first time in a decade on two of his original songs, ‘Fuel for the Road’ & ‘The River.’
The evening closed with a Late night jam that drew together the members of DJ Williams Projekt and The Bridge with contributions from Peter Keys (P-Funk, SeepeopleS), Tim Haney (SeepeopleS), Hank Smith (Barefoot Manner), Prince and Williams. A version of ‘Drive My Car’ had Keller going toe-to-toe in full-on beatbox battle with The Bridge’s Kenny Liner. HGMN founder Lee Crumpton took the stage at the end of the night to thank the participants and attendees, and he remained on stage to lend background vocals to the closing ‘Hey Pocky Way.’
