As expected, New Monsoon’s two-night run at San Francisco’s 12 Galaxies featured a healthy dose of cross-pollination. On December 30, Samantha Stollenwerk, of Samatha and the Rituals, sat for a take on ‘You’re Time is Going Come.’ Later that evening ALO guitarist Dan Lebowitz joined the group for a series of songs, including a cover of War’s ‘Cisco Kid.’ On New Year’s Eve, the following night, New Monsoon’s Phil Ferlino and Marty Ylitalo also sat in with opening act Hot Buttered Rum for a pair of covers: Elton John’s ‘Rocket Man’ and The Grateful Dead’s ‘US Blues.’ Next up, New Monsoon offered an elongated set of its own which stretched from 11:30PM to after 3AM. Highlights included ‘En Fuego,’ Pink Floyd’s ‘Fearless’ and ‘Can’t Find Me My Way.’ At 5:00, the group also served the Bill Graham Breakfast, which took over 40 pounds of bacon to prepare. Each attendee received an 11×7inch color poster as a parting gift.
