Sure we have mentioned this before but it bears noting once again that the original ulu quintet will return to the stage this evening at New York’s Blue Note. The final performance of the founding quintet took place at Wetlands Preserve on November 19, 1999 and was recorded for the Live at Wetlands release. Guitarist Luca Benedetti left the band afterwards while original rhythm section David Hoffman (drums) and Justin Wallace (bass) remained for a few more years. Since then, some of the former members have performed with Scott Chasolen (keyboards) and Aaron Gardner (tenor sax/flute) in various combinations and contexts on rare occasion, but this will be the return of the original five performing ulu music.
