On Saturday at the Langerado Music Festival in Hollywood, FL David Lowery and Johnny Hickman took the stage with moe. (one of multiple intra-band collaborations at Langerado, with additional details to follow). The pair appeared for a version of ‘Good Guys and Bad Guys’ (which Lowery originally performed and recorded with Camper Van Beethoven) followed by ‘Fire On the Mountain.’
On Sunday the group departed for warmer waters aboard the Norwegian Sun. Eytan Bernet reports, ‘After the obligatory emergency drill, the moe.rons filtered out to the bars, restaurants, and back to the sun deck to meet and greet. The line at 9:30 snaked down the deck either way, as we all got ready to enter the Starlight Lounge. After some problems with the PA that delayed the show somewhat and reappeared during the faker, the band hit the stage with a bang as the crowd roared their approval as moe. kicked off with ‘Head.’ The highlight came in the second which began with a version of ‘Rebubula,’ that carried ‘an energy that hadn’t been felt since the Saturday night of moe.down IV when moe. played a 45 minute version of the song as a third set. This segued into a smoking ‘Time Ed,’ punctuated by some great spaciness and a glorious drum duet by Jim and Vinnie. A nice ‘Brain Tuba’ tease segued into ‘Newer Chuck Tune,’ which I think we have all settled on being called ‘Where Does The Time Go?’ Later moe. closed out it around 2AM with ‘the other obligatory song of the night, ‘Water,’ after which the band continued the energy by kicking down an unanticipated ‘Head’ reprise.’ After the ‘It’ encore, ‘Rob sent us all back to the ship with pleas to not drive home drunk, and the theme of the night became ‘Somewhere between nowhere and someplace really cool’ as we went to lounge at a luxury suite at the stern of the ship. Room service was evident everywhere, and the festivities continued until early in the A.M.’
Meanwhile, moe. has announced that it will perform four sets at Summer Camp in Chillocothe, IL on May 29 and 30. Also appearing at the event will be Medeski Martin & Wood, Keller Williams, Leftover Salmon, Jazz Mandolin Project (with Jon Fishman on drums), Umphrey’s McGee, Oteil and the Peacemakers and RAQ. Tickets for the event are now on sale through moe.‘s ticketing site.
