Phish bassist Mike Gordon recorded with funky Meters drummer Russell Batiste nearly five years ago when the pair provided the rhythm section for the Gyptians on the Get You a Healin’ Musicians’ Clinic Benefit CD, along with Art Neville, George Porter, Jr., Bill Summers and Page McConnell. Batiste has gone on to join McConnell in Vida Blue and Gordon has continued to link up with Batiste on occasion. Last night at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom Gordon performed with another of Batiste’s groups, Papa Grows Funk, appearing with the New Orleans-based band for the ‘Get Out Of My Life Woman’>‘Sea Cruise’ encore. PGF’s northeast tour continues this evening at Harper’s Ferry in Boston.
