Widespread Panic performed the first of two shows before its announced hiatus, last night at the Philips Arena in Atlanta. Since these dates which will serve a retrospective for some fans, it was quite fitting that the band opened and closed with two of its older songs, ‘Love Tractor’ and ‘Porch Song.’ Over the course of the evening Panic was joined by some of those musicians who have collaborated with the group over the years including Derek Trucks and Chuck Leavell on Space Wrangler’ and ‘Mercy’ (Trucks first sat in with the band while in his mid-teens in 1994 and Leavell initially appeared with Panic on 7/30/91). In addition, University of Georgia Professor Dr. Arvin Scott joined in for ‘Drumz’ as is wont over the past few years.
