When they are not on the road, Meters bassist George Porter Jr. and drummer Johnny Vidacovic host a Thursday night Trio show at New Orleans’ Maple Leaf. As its title suggests, the weekly gig finds the rhythm section performing with a rotating third player. This evening the duo will welcome none other than James Brown trombonist Fred Wesley. The trombonist will remain in New Orleans throughout the weekend and likely join a number of others jam sessions. On New Year’s Eve Wesley also performed with the Greyboy Allstars in Solana Beach and San Francisco, CA.
