Long before he was a indie heartthrob, Justin Vernon performed in the Midwest jamband Mount Vernon and its roots-rock successor DeYarmond Edison. The latter group eventually moved from Milwaukee, WI to North Carolina, split with Vernon and reformed as Megafaun. But from 2003-2005—before DeYarmond Edison left for the Southeast—the band’s lineup also included pedal steel player Chris Porterfield. Though he decided not to move with the rest of the band, Porterfield remained close with Vernon and recently spent time in his studio finishing a new album under the name Field Report (one song from the sessions can be found above).
Field Report will also spend time on the road opening for Megafaun, including a show at Seattle, WA’s Tractor Tavern this evening.
