The Preservation Hall Jazz Band have teamed up with Ropeadope, Okayplayer, The Jazz Foundation of America and the NYC Food Truck Association to form “Renew York,” an organization dedicated to aiding those affected by Hurricane Sandy. This is not the first time that the Preservation Hall Jazz band has helped deal with the aftermath of a hurricane before. The band helped launch Renew Orleans after Hurricane Katrina devastated their hometown back in 2005. The group sold T-shirts emblazoned with the phrase “Renew Orleans” in order to raise money for victims of the storm and to send a message of hope for the people of New Orleans. Renew York intends to do the same thing, with 40% of the gross sales from their T-shirts going to organizations that are helping victims of Hurricane Sandy. You can purchase Renew York T-shirts and stickers here.
