New Orleans’ Maple Leaf will host The Galactic Alignment Band on December 21, the day the Mayan calender turns over. According to the intimate club’s website, the evening promises “an observance of the end of one cycle of the Mayan calendar, featuring the Galactic Alignment Band. Members include Bellman, S’Moore, Raines Forest, Mercury O’Rob and Vogue L. Ritch.” Curiously—or not so curiously—the names of The Galactic Alignment Band’s members are pretty close to those of New Orleans heroes Galactic, who happen to be playing Tipitina’s on New Year’s Eve (assuming the world does not end). The Maple Leaf’s December 21 show will also boast “a ceremony featuring the avatar of Bolon Yok’te K’uh, plus traditional Mayan food.”
