On July 28, Phish concluded its stand at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wis. After taking the audience on an improvisational-heavy ride across the cosmos on the initial nights at the venue, July 26 and 27, the band resumed said momentum, gassing up Sunday’s delivery and blowing the dust off select songs, shelved for the past year.

The night began with a strong take on “A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing,” which took the initial slot of the night, a position it had not been in since August 2021, effectively ending a three-year tradition of second-frame placement. From the depths of the big blue came a temporary pause and “Tube” pick up before the first “555” since Oct. 10, 2023. Rather than “make an escape,” the musicians sequenced the number above into “Divided Sky,” a version marked by spectacular piques and solos from Trey Anastasio.

Phish continued to energize the crowd with “Wolfman’s Brother, “holding back the full force of their delivery for the follow-up, “Bathtub Gin.” The band then launched into a high-energy combined “Bug” > “Possum,” setting the stage for the nonstop sequence of instrumental force in the concert’s latter frame. Their performance was a testament to their enduring energy and engagement, leaving the audience ready for more.

For the night’s encore, Phish began their finale with the first “Wedge” since Sept. 2023, ultimately turning attention toward “Carini” during the final minutes of the band’s Alpine stand. After finishing their Wisconsin weekend, Phish will take a night away from the stage before returning tomorrow, July 30, to start their two-night stand at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis. Tickets remain on sale.
