Big Easy mainstays Papa Grows Funk have announced that they will perform at Tipitina’s on the Monday after the Jazz & Heritage Festival, which will land on May 8. The upcoming concert represents the group’s second show since they parted ways in 2013.
News of the impending springtime concert was shared via the bandleader, John “Papa” Gros’ official Facebook account, where he also revealed that the intended lineup for the Crescent City concert: June Yamagishi (guitar), Jason Mingledorff (sax), Marc Pero (bass) and Jeffery “Jellybean” Alexander (drums).
Papa Grows Funk announced their indefinite hiatus after their final Maple Leaf Monday performance, which occurred in June 2013. However, the group reconvened for a reunion show at Tipitina’s in 2019. The upcoming date will represent only the second time the ensemble has played together since their 2013 disbandment.
Tickets for Papa Grows Funk’s 2023 reunion show go on sale this Friday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m. local time.
