Phil Lesh and Friends returned to the stage last night at S.O.B.‘s in New York City, as the bass player debuted a new quintet. As we reported yesterday, guitar duties were handed by recent steady Friend Larry Campbell along with blues guitarist Larry McCray. Particles Steve Molitz, who first appeared with Lesh in early 2005, appeared on keys. Drummer Jaz Sawyer, who performed with Lesh this past November at the same venue during Phil Lesh University, returned behind the kit. The setlist offered some classic Grateful Dead selections, such as Bird Song, Shakedown Street and St. Stephen as well as a version of the late Grateful Dead keyboardist Brent Mydland’s ‘Gentlemen Start Your Engines which segued into two Particle tunes, 7 Minutes to Radio Darkness and Elevator. Lesh will return to the venue for another performance this evening.
