Over the weekend, Eggy continued on their tour with Taper’s Choice for three more co-headline shows in a packed West Coast run. From Friday to Sunday, the celebrated indie jam quartet ornamented their performances with a heap of surprises, including unexpected covers, long-dormant originals and special guest spots from Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz and Eric D. Johnson.
On Friday, April 3, Eggy returned for the third performance in their shared series with Taper’s Choice, this time taking the stage at Los Angeles’ scene staple the Lodge Room. Eggy’s single-set appearance began with the older original “Between You and Me,” then lit into further essentials like a segued pairing of “Evergreen” and “Way of the Stone” before welcoming a surprise guest spot from Fruit Bats’ founder and frontman Johnson. Johnson led a treatment of his band’s own “The Bottom Of It,” which Eggy had last performed in February 2022, then complemented a cover of Crosby, Stills & Nash’s “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” on acoustic guitar. Eggy continued through a stripped-back acoustic section, then resurrected Radiohead’s “Subterranean Homesick Alien” for the first time since June 2025.
Eggy’s momentum from Friday spirited them into another action-packed showcase on the following evening, when a set at San Francisco’s The Independent commenced with the recently introduced mainstay “Falsities and Fire.” The night’s biggest surprise arrived at the mid-set, when Animal Liberation Orchestra co-founder Lebo emerged to lend his guitar talents to “A Moment’s Notice,” as well as a cover of Paul Simon’s “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover.” A later take on Crosby Stills & Nash’s “Helplessly Hoping” saw Jake Brownstein toggle form acoustic to electric mid-song, and the band capped off the evening with an encore of “Here and Now.”
Saturday brought Eggy and Taper’s Chocice to the South Shore Room at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, Stateline, N.V., and another night on the road rolled in with a pairing of “Boom or Bust” and “Sugar Sleuth,” the latter returning to their live repertoire for the first time since July 2025. “Northern Lights” arrived just after for the first time since June 2025, then Eggy burnt through another tight rotation of originals, accented by an acoustic rendition of Kacey Musgraves’ ‘Oh, What A World” and their sweeping, grandiose adaptation of Big Thief’s “Time Escaping.” “Boom or Bust” bookended the frame, then an encore of “Moments Passed” punctuated the weekend.
Eggy and Taper’s Choice’s shared tour will continue on Wednesday, April 8 with a stand at Eugene, Ore.’s WOW Hall. Find tickets and more information at eggymusic.com.
