On SiriusXM’s Life with John Mayer, the channel’s host and namesake rides the rhythms of the day, while connecting with the JM faithful. He calls audibles on his audibles and wears a hat on a hat (not that he needs to, have you seen that dude’s hair?). As a result, in early March when Mayer read a Relix news story on his latest weekly channel offering, the Grateful Dead Listening Party, he knew it was time to act. That story was titled “John Mayer Announces Weekly Grateful Dead Meet Up on His SiriusXM Station.” Sticking his finger in the proverbial wind, he recognized that he needed to create yet another new programming block, which he has titled John Mayer’s Weekly Grateful Dead Meat Up.
This two-hour program will blend Mayer’s dual interests in priapic studies and his commitment to a zero carb, high protein diet. These elements will inform all of the programming choices on Meat Up.
As he explained on the air, “The pleasure of Life with John Mayer is hearing two songs next to each other. One is your current favorite, one is your next favorite. Except on Meat Up, we won’t just go back-to-back, we’ll also go bareback, while juxtaposing moe.’s 45-minute ‘Meat’ single with the latest from Bonerama. Of course, the Phish maestros always have it dialed in, which is why ‘Meatstick’ pretty much says it all, but since we’re doing this two-by-two, I’ll add some ‘Dickie Scotland’ for good measure. And as for you Dead freaks and Burroughs devotees, you know how I feel about Steely Dan.
“Please also keep in mind that Life with John Mayer is always true to the experience of John Mayer. So if you find me on the Boston bandwagon next week, don’t expect ‘Foreplay’ to segue into ‘Longtime,’ as I’m still on the mend from that adductor strain. Which reminds me, we’ll also track the relevant Hollywood trends like the remake of that Grateful Dead branded 2009 Lifetime movie Black Peter about ‘the tragic impact of venereal disease on a “perfect” suburban couple.’ So don’t worry if you feel the need to tell me that guarding fumes and making haste just ain’t your cup of meat, because I’ll be sure to remind you that the small wheel’s turning by the fire and rod.
“Again, on Life with John Mayer, I’m just not here with you, I’m here with me, matching my many moods of the day. I’m always tuned in and if you love listening to me as much as I love listening to me, then there will be plenty of self-love to go around. So check out our Weekly Grateful Dead Meat Up. You can join me as I reflect on Owsley’s carnivorous eating as I beat it on down the line, while living Life with John Mayer.”
