Marco Benevento sat in with The Barr Brothers at Woodstock, NY’s Bearsville Theater last night. The keyboardist, who lives in the area and has been a regular art Bearsville since it reopened almost two years ago, emerged during The Barr Brothers’ set to play accordion on “Come in the Water,” a track from their 2014 LP Sleeping Operator. Benevento has a long history with Andrew and Brad Barr–he first met Andrew while they were students at Boston’s Berklee College of Music and was a fan, frequent tourmate and sometimes guest with their old band The Slip in the late-1990s and early 2000. He also was a member of their Surprise Me Mr. Davis project and appears on the new Barr Brothers record Let It Hiss.
On Friday, The Barr Brothers also made what very well way may be their final stop at Brooklyn, NY’s Music Hall of Williamsburg before the space closes later this year; they have performed at the venue for 20 years, including a New Year’s Eve The Slip show as 2006 changed over to 2007.
The Barr Brothers will perform at Northampton, MA’s The Iron Horse tomorrow. Benevento will return to Bearsville for an “and friends” set on March 27, featuring Karina Rykman, Sam Cohen, Jay Collins and many more in the venue’s lounge space.
