moe. are currently in the midst of a three-show run at South Burlington, Vt.’s Higher Ground. Last night, during their second concert of the stand, moe. brought out Goose drummer Cotter Ellis at the top of their second set. Ellis, who lives in the area and is still incredibly active in the local musical community, sat in on the moe. Dither favorite “Opium” as well as a cover of Bob Weir’s classic “Cassidy.”
Though moe. has performed “Cassidy” numerous times since debuting the Ace cut at San Francisco’s The Fillmore in 2003, when Weir joined them on the stage, this marked the first time the musicians have played the tune since the Grateful Dead co-founder’s passing. Of note, the members of moe. have started to dust off the number more frequently since 2023, when they ran through it with Grahame Lesh during a holiday-time show at Port Chester, NY’s Capitol Theatre.
moe. will close their Higher Ground run tonight. Looking ahead, they will open for Goose at Saratoga Springs, NY’s Saratoga Performing Arts Center on July 4.
