Bob Weir’s passing on Saturday, Jan. 10, has stirred an outpouring of loving remembrances, veneration and gratitude from around the world. In his six decades defining the sound of the Grateful Dead and guaranteeing its future for generations to come, the legendary guitarist, singer and songwriter built up a legacy worthy of recognition at a colossal scale – as demonstrated by his tributes at Sphere, The Forum and the Empire State Building.

After news broke of Weir’s departure, a photograph of the iconic artist, framed by roses, was displayed on the exterior of Las Vegas’ Sphere. With Dead & Company’s two extended Dead Forever residencies in 2024 and 2025, Weir and his ensemble delivered a total of 48 shows at the technologically unparalleled stage, currently standing as the venue’s record. That unforgettable run provided the backdrop for several landmark occasions, including Dead & Company’s 10th anniversary celebration, special guests and several tributes to the late Phil Lesh, who passed between the runs in October 2024.

Los Angeles’ Kia Forum also hosted several Dead & Company performances, including the kickoff for the band’s final tour in 2023, and on Saturday, the venue honored that history by projecting a spiralling tie-dye rainbow across its iconic facade. Similarly, New York’s Empire State Building set a tribute to Weir prominently on the city’s skyline with a special tie-dye configuration of the lights at its rooftop – a rare honor well earned.
