The Mayor of San Francisco, Daniel Lurie, has announced Dead & Company’s August 1-3 concerts at historic Golden Gate Park in celebration of the Grateful Dead’s 60th anniversary via Twitter/X

“We have some really big news. Dead & Co., three shows, August 1st, 2nd and 3rd, right here in the city that is the home of the Grateful Dead. What better way to celebrate? We’ll see you out here in August,” he said in the official video confirming the concerts.

Notably, on May 5, the Grateful Dead reached the 60-year marker since their 1965 debut at Menlo Park, Calif.’s Magoo’s Pizza Parlor. The group’s [Bobby Weir, Mickey Hart, John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, Jeff Chimenti, and Jay Lane] proposed Golden Gate Park concert would assist in celebrating the original members’ diamond jubilee—subsequently, Dead & Company will also celebrate their 10th anniversary this year.

The Grateful Dead’s initial gigs at the city’s largest urban park helped establish their musical reputation in the region. Among the park concerts, the band took part in 1967’s Human Be-In, opposing California State Legislature’s LSD ban, 1975’s Lindley Meadows performance (a surprise show after their one-year hiatus that pulled a crowd of 50,000), as well as Bill Graham’s ‘91 memorial, along with other musicians and admirers of the storied promoter, Joan Baez, Santana and CSNY.

Golden Gate Park also drew thousands of Deadheads following the passing of Grateful Dead lead guitarist Jerry Garcia, when fans, admirers, and bandmates arrived at the park’s Polo Fields on August 13, 1995, for a final salute to the prolific musician.

The last time Dead & Company performed in San Francisco was during their Final Tour, over three nights, on July 14-16, 2023, at Oracle Park. Outside the Bay Area, the ensemble played at the Los Angeles Convention Center during MusiCares’ 2025 event.

Dead & Company concluded their fifth weekend at Las Vegas’ Sphere as part of their Dead Forever residency, honoring the music and legacy of the Grateful Dead.
