On Saturday Goose closed out their debut event at El Ganzo Oasis in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico. Viva El Gonzo featured three days of Goose along with a variety of other artists, including Dawes, The War On Drugs, LP Giobbi, Andy Frasco & The U.N., Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Sierra Hull, Dogs In A Pile, Eggy and Mihali.
The host band played three sets on the festival’s concluding day. First up was an acoustic afternoon performance. The band opened with a cover of “Me & My Uncle,” then delivered a mix of covers of originals, including Goose’s second-ever take on “Dim Lights,” a Rick Mitarotonda tune which was first performed by Orebolo. Sierra Hull appeared with her group just prior to this set and joined Goose for the band’s first-ever take on Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright” followed by The Wood Brothers’ “Atlas.”
Goose’s evening appearance began with a run from “Pancakes” into “Hungersite” and back into “Pancakes.” Then, following “California Magic,” the quartet offered “Butter Rum” as a bookend to “Echo of a Rose.” “Everything Must Go” closed things out.
Much of set two was an extended segued sequence. The group moved from “Feel it Now” into “Animal,” then the group’s premiere of “Dustin Hoffman,” followed by “726” and “Dripfield.” An apt “How it Ends” finished the second frame, followed by a “Thatch” encore.
Earlier in the day Mitarotonda appeared with Pigeons Playing Ping Pong on “Poseidon” and he later joined El Ganzo Collective’s late night performance.
Next up for Goose is an appearance at Bottlerock Napa Valley on May 25 which will precede a West Coast tour. For tickets to see Goose live, click here.
