On Friday, April 11, The Energy Curfew Music Hour season two will close after one final performance featuring newly added guests Andrew Bird and drummer Nate Smith, who will participate in the musical variety show, appearing alongside The Punch Brothers and host Chris Thile. The show will be recorded live at Audible’s Minetta Lane Theatre in New York and released at a later date.
Previously this season, musicians and acts such as Billy Strings, Jesca Hoop, Shawn Mendes, Cécile McLorin Salvant & Sullivan Fortner, Jacob Collier, Tune-Yards, Sara Bareilles, Meshell Ndegeocello, I’m With Her and Amos Lee. Season one boasted appearances by music vets like James Taylor, Norah Jones, Kacey Musgraves, and Jon Batiste.
The concept behind The Energy Curfew Music Hour is to present an imagined near-future where electricity is rationed worldwide. In this realm, America has instituted a weekly “Energy Curfew,” when the grid goes down entirely for 24 hours to promote unplugged life. The Energy Curfew Music Hour is an hour of music-driven revelry broadcast across the nation an hour before the so-called lights go out.
Created by mandolin-virtuoso Thile and his wife Claire Coffee, each episode of this entirely acoustic musical variety show is performed and recorded live with Punch Brothers, who will welcome special guests in a night of music and one-night-only collaboration.
