On April 25, Goose will release its highly anticipated fourth studio album Everything Must Go via No Coincidence Records. The two exceptional singles that have preceded the project, “Give It Time” and “Lead Up,” show the famously shapeshifting indie-groove innovators expanding their repertoire with a colorful mix of new sounds. Yesterday, the band premiered the project with an event just as vibrant, staging the Everything Must Go Experience at Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy.

Luna Luna, exhibited in New York’s The Shed, provided the perfect setting to start Goose’s new chapter with its dazzling array of carnival fixtures designed by legends like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Roy Lichtenstein and Salvador Dalí. These immersive installations perfectly complemented the festive album art created by illustrator Brian Blomerth, who brought his creative vision to life with costumed characters moving through the crowd. Before the show commenced, storied producer Abe Seiferth treated attendees to a mind-bending preview of Everything Must Go, merging cuts from the album’s 14 tracks into a fluid modular synthesizer mix.

In the center of this kaleidoscopic scene, Goose emerged on a raised platform with Stuart Bogie, the former Antibalas multi-instrumentalist and enduring staple of New York’s alternative music scene, who joined the quartet for a full-set collaboration; Bogie first crossed paths with the outfit with contributions to 2022’s Dripfield. Just as they performed to the audience in a round, the band stood in a circle onstage, enabling closer communication and improvisational ease.

From this setup, Goose served up 90 minutes of improvisation, navigating heady peaks and contemplative valleys with inspiring virtuosity. Bogie’s contributions of saxophone and clarinet steered the group in new directions, crafting unprecedented sounds from their carefully recombined tones. While the bulk of their set was instrumental, lead guitarist and vocalist Rick Mitarotonda brought his voice into the mix with autotuned vocalization based on prompts provided by the audience. The group added some humor around the set’s mid-point with the echoed I Think You Should Leave quote, “I’m just here for the zipline.

Altogether, the Everything Must Go Experience was a fitting introduction to a multifaceted new project from a band that fearlessly pursues new creative possibilities. As Goose’s connection with new experiential design partner Justin Bolignino and META continues to evolve, fans can doubtlessly expect the group to take their ambitions ever further.

Goose will return to the stage on April 24 with a performance at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, then fly out to Baja California Sur for the long-awaited Viva El Gonzo getaway. For tickets and more information on the band’s full live itinerary, visit goosetheband.com/tour
