Over the weekend, West Virginia’s Snowshoe Mountain Resort held its annual 4848 Festival. The multi-band gathering, which takes its name from the event location’s elevation, brought together a mix of acts on three different stages, including STS9, The Infamous Stringdusters, Greensky Bluegrass, Grateful Shred, The Revivalists, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country, Moon Taxi and Pressing Strings, among others.

As is often the case at large-scale gatherings, the weekend also served as the backdrop for some notable collaborations. Cosmic Country played on the Sky stage right before event headliners The Revivalists on Friday and, at the end of their set, the New Orleans act brought out Donato to play on a cover of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ 1976 classic “American Girl,” right before the evening climaxed with a fireworks display. The Revivalists began covering the anthemic song in time for a Petty tribute segment during their Halloween show at the Avondale Brewing Company in Birmingham, AL this past October and have continued to perform it on occasion.

For their part, Lotus used their late-night festival slot on the Village stage Saturday to offer one of their “rodeo rave” sets, weaving in a mix of country and roots tunes during their performance. That included the livetronica group’s debut mashup of Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth,” John Devner’s “Country Roads,” Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places” and Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony” as well as their first take on Charley Crockett’s “Welcome to Hard Times.” The usually instrumental outfit also brought out Greensky Bluegrass’ Paul Hoffman to sing on their first reading of Sturgill Simpson’s “Best Clockmaker on Mars,” and they ran through thematic tunes from a previous rodeo rave at their Summerdance Festival like the Spaghetti Western instrumental “Bullet for a Stranger,” Trace Adkins’ “Honky Tonk Badontadonk,” Kenny Roger’s “The Gambler,” Kris Kristofferson’s “The Pilgrim” and a medley of their own “Move Too Fast’ and Glen Campbell’s “Rhinestone Cowboy.”

The Revivalists, who will release the new album Get It Honest this Friday, will perform next at frontman David Shaw’s Big River Get Down in Hamilton, OH from July 23-25. Band of Horses, JJ Grey & Mofro, Fruition and several others will round out the bill. Meanwhile, Cosmic Country will appear at The Stiefel Theatre in Salina, KS this Thursday, July 23, Lotus will perform at Bond, CO’s Beanstalk Festival from August 6-8 and Greensky Bluegrass will take the stage at Buffalo, NY’s Town Ballroom on Wednesday, July 22.
