After rolling out his plans for his 2025 Luck Reunion and massive Outlaw Music Festival tour in the past few weeks, Willie Nelson has detailed the last outstanding item in his annual summer agenda with the lineup for his Fourth of July Picnic. Nelson’s independence day celebration has been a staple of his touring plans for over five decades now, dating back to a groundbreaking debut in 1973 and bringing on countless unforgettable bills since. This year, Shotgun Willie will bring the celebration back to the Lone Star State, staging at Austin, Texas’ Germania Insurance Arena.
Nelson’s 2025 picnic will once again feature a star-studded cast of collaborators, chief among which is Bob Dylan, who returns after signing on for last year’s holiday show and as a co-headliner on the broader Outlaw Music Festival tour. Though the icons are set for many more shared dates this year, any onstage collaboration would still be a first, as sets from 2024 were issued in a tight rotation. Beyond the bard, Nelson has tapped storied folk-rock trio the Avett Brothers, Miami country rock outfit the Mavericks, longtime retro Western swingers Asleep at the Wheel and country singer-songwriter Tami Nielson.
“I’m 92 years old and I’ll be there so you have no excuse,” Nelson said in a statement. “I look forward to bringing back my annual 4th of July Picnic to the city I love and sharing this special event with all my Austin fans.”
Tickets for Nelson’s Fourth of July Picnic will go on sale on Friday, March 7. For more information, visit blackbirdpresents.com.
