Acclaimed banjo player Bela Fleck is a longtime friend of the Dave Matthews Band. He first appeared with the group over four nights during a 1996 New Year’s Eve run. In addition, longtime Flecktone Jeff Coffin is now a member of DMB.

Last evening at Madison Square Garden, Fleck came out for a few songs over the course of the show. He joined in on DMB classics “Ants Marching” and “#41” towards the end of the group’s extended set. He later returned for the encore, contributing to “The Last Stop,” which closed out the festivities.

Dave Matthews Band is back at MSG tonight for the Soulshine benefit. Folks who are attending the event (or tuning in via stream) should note that the show will begin at 7pm sharp.
