On Monday, Nov. 4, longtime Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan commenced his latest US solo tour at Boston’s Paradise Rock Club. The performance saw onstage assistance from Wildflowers’ lead vocalist, guitarist, and principal songwriter, Jakob Dylan. He joined his host on the Bean Town stage for a stirring take on David Bowie’s “Heroes,” the cover served as a first-time play, marking a live debut for the pair.

Notably, Dylan formally covered the mid-seventies chart-topper before the onset of the aughts via the 1998 release Godzilla: The Album–a soundtrack forged in association with the well-known monster film/ box office success. The Wallflowers’ cover of the Bowie/ Brian Eno co-write ascended the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart that same year and ultimately ranked No. 10 at its peak.

During this week’s live debut, McKagan and Dylan shared vocal duties, parsing the sage lines, which felt particularly poignant when sung hours before the American people went to the polls to vote in the 2024 US presidential election.
