Last night, March 21, bluegrass sweetheart Sierra Hull took her Tip Toe High Wire Tour to the historic midwest venue, The Sheldon Concert Hall. The St. Louis stop conjured a collaborative coupling when regional resident and son of the great Gregg Allman, Devon Allman, joined his friend on stage for a ghostly rendition of The Allman Brother Band classic, “End of the Line.”
The team-up occurred during the latter half of Hull’s concert, taking the second-to-last slot on the setlist, following the headliner’s cover of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones’ “Stomping Ground.” In addition to Devon, the team-up expanded to a trio format, with the second-generation Southern rockers guitarist’s bandmate Jackson Stokes adding licks and layers to The Cal Expo 1991 stinger.
Notably, Devon and Hull initially performed “End of the Line” during The Allman Betts Family Revival Tour last year, during a stop at New York’s Beacon Theater, among other stops. “Sierra is such a slayer on that mandolin,” boasted Devon via press release. “…and what a voice. I love playing music with her every chance I get,” he continued.
Currently, Hull is taking part in a spree of Midwest appearances before opening the West Coast leg of her tour. Meanwhile, Devon is gearing up for The Allman Betts Band’s reunion shows slated for Australia and the United States this spring, in addition to July dates in Japan, before releasing his next solo LP.
